Fabulous Flappers: Fashions from the Ellie Laubner Collection

  • March 15, 2013
  • 1:00 PM
  • Allentown Art Museum, 31 N. Fifth St.

Dear Neighbors,

If you were downtown Allentown last Saturday evening (February 9th), you might have spotted people wearing colorful outfits from the 1920's. They were guests of the Allentown Art Museum's celebration of the opening of the latest exhibition, Fabulous Flappers: Fashions from the Ellie Laubner Collection. Take a trip back in time to the Roaring 20's as part of a special gallery walk hosted by Ellie, who has generously offered to share her extensive knowledge of this interesting era with her neighbors.

Ellie began collecting antique clothing and accessories in 1981 when her mother-in-law presented her with vintage dresses, beaded bags, and eyeglasses. Since then she has written two books, Fashions of the Roaring 20s and Collectible Fashions of the Turbulent 30s. Ellie taught History of Costume and Color, Line and Design at Northampton Community College from 1986 to 1992 and has given over 200 lectures to audiences at national conventions, organizational meetings, schools and retirement homes. She curated three vintage fashion exhibits at the Kemmerer Museum in Bethlehem. In 2009 she donated her collection to the Allentown Art Museum. The first exhibition featuring some of Ellie's donations to the museum opened this month.
