RGNA Neighborhood Luminaria Display

  • December 16, 2012
  • 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM
  • RGNA neighborhood

The latest weather reports indicate a low chance of rain tonight, therefore, the luminaria event is a go. Please light your luminaria by 5:00 PM and enjoy visiting with neighbors while delighting in the beautiful glow of the lights.

RGNA members and their neighbors are invited to "light up the night" with luminaria along the City sidewalks for a glowing holiday display of the neighborhood for all to enjoy. Walk along and meet your neighbors, perhaps stopping by a friendly porch to sip a hot toddy or mulled cider along the way while taking in the crisp night air. Hope you’ll join in lighting up our West End for a memorable evening display!

Luminaria How-Tos:

(1) White lunch bags - 6"x 4"x 12 ¼ " size works best. If you can't find these, use the next smaller size.

(2) Fill with 1 inch of play sand available at hardware stores (Ace, Albrights, Lowes, Home Depot); approx. $3 per 40lb. bag

(3) Space bags 5 feet apart  - placed along the inner edge of the City sidewalk in front of your home.

(4) 10-hour votive candles - provide a nice, long show for all the effort:

  • available at A-1 Restaurant Supply at 16th St. and Sumner Avenue in Allentown;
  • cost is $2.59 (1 dozen); $15.42(6 dozen); $49.08 (24 dozen = 1 case)
  • note: tea lights, depending on quality, were found to average only a 2 to 4 - hour burn; (LED tea or votive lights were found not to provide ample light.)

(5) Allow time (1/2 hr. - 1 hr.) to set-up your luminaria so they can be burning by 5 p.m.!
